How to Make Amazing Dandelion Salve & Eye Cream

How to make Dandelion Salve. Super simple DIY | Luxuriously Thrifty

I started off making salves by one day just diving right in and making a dandelion salve. Which means that I had to pick a bunch of dandelions, dry them out, soak them in oil, and THEN put the salve together. Not the best place to start if you want to dip your toes into the whole skincare DIY, but an excellent place if you want to jump right on in.

Dandelion salve is simple and makes your skin look, and feel, amazing. At first, I wasn’t sure what I was going to use this salve for. Maybe a hand lotion? Feet? Body? I knew that dandelions are amazing for your skin, but I wasn’t sure of the best place to apply.

I’ve been using dandelion salve, intermittently, for just under a year, slathering it onto my hands and, now under my eyes instead of an eye cream. As a long-time lover of Estee Lauder products, especially the night repair line, I’ve slathered expensive creams and serums onto my face for years. Yes, my skin looks amazing. Yes, it feels even better. And, yes, my bank account cries every time I run out.

My original reason for using dandelion salve as an eye ‘cream’ was because I had blown my budget and $150 for more Estee Lauder Night Serum wasn’t feasible. I used a dab of the dandelion salve to ‘get me through’. I had only been using the dandelion salve in the morning every so often and saving the ‘good stuff’ for night (the best time for products since your skin repairs itself at night). Then, I started noticing how soft my skin felt and once I ran out of the ‘good stuff’, I kicked it for good. And, not just because I found an amazing new DIY that costs a handful of dollars for a full year’s worth.

From there, I got hooked and now use it day and night under my eyes and now have made a very similar balm for my everyday day and night face ‘lotion’.

I started this as a type of experiment to see if it would give my skin some added benefits and save me a bit of money (it only costs about $5 to make and a jam jar of it can last a year!). My skin feels, and looks, better than it has been and I’m sure it’ll only get better as time rolls on.

This great article talks of the benefits of dandelions for your skin AND had had a tincture recipe I’m excited to try.

How to make dandelion salve. Step 1: start with a bunch of dandelions. A furry helper is always a good idea | Luxuriously Thrifty

First things first: go out and pick an intense amount of dandelions to make your infused oil. Already have your infused oil? Excellent!

Once your infused oil is finished infusing (usually about 2 – 6 weeks), you’re ready to begin making the salve!
Even though you’ve already washed your dandelion flowers before making an infused oil, I highly suggest filtering your dandelion oil, again. Dirt can still cling to the flowers. So, grab that cheesecloth and give it a quick filter.

Now, we’re truly ready to begin!

Melt 1 cup of coconut oil to every 1/4 cup of dandelion oil.

Mix well.

Leave in the fridge for a quicker set or leave out for 24 – 48 hours until your new everything-balm solidifies.
