With the holidays right around the corner, the thought of staying in a hotel can be depressing. Spruce up your hotel stay, bring in some Christmas cheer, and perk up your mood with these 7 easy ways to make your hotel homey during the holiday season.

Kitchenette or Baked Goods
Staying in a boring hotel can make you miss home something fierce, even if that hotel is in your home-town.  Make it feel more like home by upgrading to a room with a kitchen. With it, you can bake Christmas cookies and have small feel-good comfort food that will make you feel cozier and happier to be on the road during the holidays. The best part? For most hotels, the added benefit of an in-room kitchen is barely an upgrade, sometimes only 20-50 bucks more per night.
No cooking skills or room for upgrades on your credit card? Buy your favourite holiday treats to enjoy while your stay.

Personal Pillow
I can’t preach enough about bringing your own quillow, blanket, or small https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00L4Z0T2Y/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=15121&creative=330641&creativeASIN=B00L4Z0T2Y&linkCode=as2&tag=luxuriously00-20&linkId=55d0a7daa424b6eea82542074857fd67">Huzi Infinity Pillow - Design Travel Pillow and Soft Neck Support Pillow - Machine Washable (Grey)travel pillow on a trip for the flight. But, what about for the accommodations? Never mind the neck aches and pains that you can get from the wrong bedding, the simple thing of having something that smells like home can make you feel so much better. Snuggle up with your favourite pillow from home and have a restful night’s sleep without the homesickness.

Candles
If allowed. Always check with the hotel in case candles are a no-go during your stay. If they are, go ahead, and light up! Choose a Christmassy cheery candle to get the festive mood set and get rid of the stagnant hotel air that is constantly recycled throughout. https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00NT6SFRM/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=15121&creative=330641&creativeASIN=B00NT6SFRM&linkCode=as2&tag=luxuriously00-20&linkId=b1f58d1cad319bd4ede8a6c5bb214400">Paddywax Library Collection Ralph Waldo Emerson Travel Wax Candle, Cedar/Wild FernThis candle even comes in a cute and chic travel-sized tin and this beauty smells like a ‘Canadian Christmas Tree’.
No luck on burning a candle during your stay? A pillow spray will do the trick! You can choose the scent most comforting to you (I recommend This Works Deep Sleep Pillow Spray – it’s like being enveloped in comfort), relaxing your mind and putting you right to sleep.

Blanket
Again, who are these people who leave home with their favourite blankie and pillow? Bring a throw blanket from home (or use your travel blanket) to snuggle up in your room, bringing the smell of home with you and making you forget about what has happened on that couch in your room.

Decorate!

Yes, decorate. Sounds ridiculous, right? Wrong…sort of. If you’re always on the go and in and out of hotels, it can get grueling, especially around the holidays. The lobby will be nicely decorated and festive looking and you can always find some tinsel or a tree in the bar, but what about your room? Bring a decoration or two (you don’t have to go crazy) and set them up in your hotel room. Buy a small tree, a fake garland or string of lights to make your room feel more festive and more like home.

Bring your Own Mug
My favourite part of the morning is picking out my outfit for the day. My second favourite? Making coffee and curling up on the big chair with my mug. Pack a mug and/or your favourite coffee and get to brewing! I brought my mug all the way to Paris, because, Instagram. But, it made me feel like I was right at home as I made coffee for myself and my friends, pouring the hot beautiful liquid into my favourite mug. Afraid to pack your favourite mug? Buy a holiday-inspired one that will keep you in the Christmas mood and help make you feel like you’re at home instead of in a hotel.

Flowers/ Holiday Arrangement
Flowers can spruce up any room and make it feel more homey in seconds. Read here  how to brighten up someone else’s stay during the holidays.
Get festive and order, or pick up, a holiday arrangement (or two!) and instantly feel the glow. And the room perk up.
